3 tips to Feng Shui your wallet to attract wealth

What is Feng Shui?

Feng shui is an ancient Chinese practice involving harnessing the positive energy known as chi to create balance and harmony in one’s environment. Feng shui can be used to improve the energy flow in a person’s space, such as home or office, in order to attract wealth and success. Those looking to tap into the power of feng shui may use practices such as rearranging furniture, decluttering, and placing symbolism and symbolism of Feng Shui to improve the energetic flow and create success and wealth.

My personal approach to Feng Shui

I’m not a Feng Shui expert. But I believe Feng Shui encourages an individual to be mindful of their environment and how it can affect their financial decisions. How you treat objects in your environment can promote mindful spending and increase financial abundance when combined with intention. Achieving balance can also be facilitated by creating an organized and harmonious home environment, both mentally and physically, so that financial decisions can be made with clarity and level-headedness.

3 things I practice with my wallet and handbag to keep the positive energy flowing and attract wealth:

1. Declutter often and dispose of receipts immediately

A chaotic wallet or handbag attracts chaotic energy. Old receipts, unused cards, and crumbled cash create stale, negative energy. So as you’re starting to think about how you can attract more positive financial energy, start by decluttering. Then get into the habit of keeping it clutter-free.

I immediately dispose of receipts unless I’ve bought an item I’m considering returning soon. And typically, I put that receipt on the fridge at home so it is a visual reminder to quickly decide whether I am keeping the item or returning it.

2. Keep the wallet and bag in excellent condition

Along the lines of decluttering, it’s also important to have a clean, well-maintained, and quality wallet and handbag. Showing respect for your wallet is a reflection of showing respect for your money.

They don’t have to be expensive, but pieces that will hold up for a long time without getting worn out or scuffed will help you feel more polished and in better control of your money stored inside. I’ve personally had a very nice quality wallet that I bought at a deep discount from TJ Maxx probably over 6 years ago that has held up nicely over time. I also treat it with care by not overstuffing it and keeping it clean.

3. Be intentional with what credit cards are kept inside

I think this is the biggest and best tip that I have used personally that has helped me set intentions with my money. I never keep all of my credit or debit cards in my wallet at one time. I only store my most commonly used cards in my wallet: grocery credit card, gas credit card, AAA membership card, and photo ID. All of my other cards like my store-branded cards (i.e. TJ Maxx, Target Redcard), club membership cards, and travel credit cards, that are used less often are stored safely at home. I take those cards out and put them in my wallet right before I’m going to make a trip or visit a specific store.

Credit cards, like receipts, signal debt. It is borrowed money that is not exactly yours. The more you have in your wallet, the more likely you’re in a constant state of money going out faster than it comes in. Then when the monthly statement comes in, you can’t believe you spent that much! Narrow it down to only the critical everyday card(s).

This habit has greatly helped me avoid impulse shopping! I find it harder to just pop into a favorite store and shop on a whim or to stop at a restaurant or grab takeout food on the way home. I still enjoy shopping and eating out at restaurants, which is of course why I have credit cards for those occasions, but this approach helps me be more intentional about how and when I make those spending decisions.

Bonus: Add visual cues

When you have the basics covered, I think it’s a great practice to enhance the Feng Shui energy of your wallet by adding thoughtful visual cues. Red, purple, and green are colors highly auspicious colors associated with wealth. Consider either choosing a wallet or handbag in a color that resonates with you or include a photo that features one of those colors prominently.
